Manager, Sustaining Engineering

The Manager, Sustaining Engineering, is a leader within the service and support functional reporting line. You will lead both people and technology in that area, bridging Engineering and Customer Service and Support. Work directly with Engineering to drive quality bug fixes back into the product and offer your expertise to support our teams. You and your team will also deliver special features and functions requested by our clients. The ideal candidate possesses strong Engineering and SDLC skills, is capable of developing a deep understanding of our SaaS platform and its technologies, and has extensive experience interfacing with internal and external teams. Further, you will manage, grow, hire, retain, and build a strong engineering team—empowering our people to predictively deliver high-quality output.

Key responsibilities

  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Communicate program progress, escalations, and issue analysis to product stakeholders
  • Collaborate with management and engineering partners to recommend and implement changes to product, processes, or business practices to resolve escalated issues and produce solutions
  • Assure the team is always engaged and productive working on triage, break-fix, special development, and automation tasks to benefit the platform
  • Drive the engineering and support process flow and align tools, life cycle, nomenclature, statuses, and processes
  • Effectively create and communicate the status of service and support goals
  • Understand the platform and how it’s utilized to drive customer success
  • Focus on employee growth and build a strong team by hiring, coaching, guiding, and holding the team accountable to deliver on tasks
  • Empower team members to listen, think, prioritize, and execute on day-to-day objectives
  • Implement and promote the use of standards and best practices within areas of expertise
  • Drive activity from initiation to completion and ensure team progress


  • 5+ years’ software delivery experience
  • A comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the complexities and needs of managing a software engineering team in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment that drives customer satisfaction
  • Inherent knowledge of SDLC and best practices to manage engineering projects
  • Deep understanding of native app development and front-end and back-end technologies
  • Experience driving projects to completion using Jira as a work management software in an agile environment
  • Experience in Microsoft .Net software programming and web application development
  • Experience in client-side frameworks and languages such as jQuery and JavaScript
  • Experience in SQL and relational databases

Additional skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of ServiceNow and automated workflows
  • Knowledge of Bitbucket and code management
  • Knowledge of unit testing frameworks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, Agile/Scrum environment
